Place wire rack on center shelf and preheat oven to 350° F.
In a medium bowl mix together the flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl cream together the softened butter and the two sugars.
Mix in the eggs and vanilla, scraping the bowl as you mix to get everything mixed in!
Add in flour mixture, about 1/3 at a time. Stir well between each addition, the dough will get somewhat stiff.
Add 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate chips and the nuts. Mix well.
Transfer dough to greased 9 x 13 pan, or line the pan with heavy aluminum foil or parchment paper. Gently press down evenly.
Add remaining chocolate chips on top, and press down into dough.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until bars turn golden brown. Don't overbake!
Remove bars from oven, cool on pan on wire rack for at least 15 minutes, then cut.If you lined the pan remove the bars by picking up the edges of the lining carefully. Cut on cutting board.
