In a medium saucepan over medium heat melt the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup, stirring until smooth.
Pour melted mixture onto a large baking sheet. Spread to cover the entire sheet. Place the 12 slices of bread in a single layer to cover the pan.
Mix the eggs, half & half, salt, vanilla, and cinnamon. Carefully pour or spoon egg mixture over each piece of bread. Cover and allow to sit in refrigerator overnight.
Bake uncovered at 350° F. for 25-30 minutes, until lightly golden. Flip toasts over, and broil for a minute or two to caramelize the topping just a bit more.
Top with powdered sugar and/or fresh fruit. If you want, you can add a little syrup but it's sweet enough without it.
To get firm French toast, use day-old or dried out bread. You can slice the bread and let it sit out for the day, or pop it under the broiler for just a few seconds on each side. This will prevent soggy French toast!
