This hamburger patty melt is basically a bacon cheeseburger with all the fixings! Except instead of a bun it’s all sandwiched together on buttery bread and toasted to a golden crisp! So easy!!!
Form ¼ pound of ground beef into a ball. Use your hands to flatten and shape it into a nice round hamburger patty. Pour about an inch of water in a skillet and heat it to boiling over medium high heat.Cut up a sweet onion into ½” slices and add 1/4 of the onion to the boiling water. Then place the burger in the onion water too.Cook burger about 3 minutes on each side. Add more water if needed so there is always a bit of water in the skillet.Remove the cooked burgers to plate the has a paper towel on it. This will help soak up a little of the extra water. Salt and pepper to taste.
Butter one side of two slices of bread. Take the two slices of bread (buttered sides on the outside) and sandwich 1-2 slices of cheese, a few slices of bacon, and the cooked burger.Buttered side down, fry the “sandwich” on a flat skillet over low heat. Use a spatula to keep peeking underneath to make sure the butter bread doesn’t burn. When the bread is a nice golden brown, use two spatulas to hold it all together as you carefully flip it over. Brown the other side too!
