Easy Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe ~ from Mary and Polly!

plate of cookies

This easy chocolate chip cookie recipe is my go-to when I need a cookie fix! These chocolate chip cookies are crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. Yum!!! Just like a great cookie should be!!

I’ve actually tweaked Mary and Polly’s recipe a bit to make it my own. The original recipe was submitted by Polly and her sister, Mary, to a cookbook that I received from them for a wedding shower gift. As you can see from the cover, this cookbook has been well-loved!

These two ladies are my cousins. I not only love them dearly, they are two of the best cooks and bakers I know! I’m guessing that this might have actually been their mom’s, my Aunt Josie’s recipe. I’ll have to ask them the next time we visit!

Easy Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Ingredients

Using both butter and butter-flavored shortening gives these cookies their special texture! I like to use milk chocolate chips, but you can use whatever flavored chip is your favorite. I love both walnuts and pecans, and sometimes I’ll add both!!

Sugars, flour, vanilla, eggs, soda, and salt are the rest of the ingredients you’ll use to make these yummy cookies!!

Mixing the Dough

This last year I bought myself a present, a KitchenAid stand mixer. What a gift, I love it!!! It’s so easy to mix cookie dough now!

Start with the sugars, butter and shortening and stir until it’s all creamed together. Then add in the eggs and vanilla and stir thoroughly until everything is smoothed together.

Then add in the dry ingredients. I usually divide the dry ingredients in half, and add them in separately so I don’t have a cloud of flour in my kitchen, lol!!

The Fork in the Road…

Here’s the tricky part! You are going to have to make an important decision about which road to take at this point. One path will lead you to eating crispy, golden baked chocolate chip cookies. The other path will lead you to eating scrumptious, chewy cookie dough.

There’s no wrong road to take, my friends!!! Now I know raw cookie dough is a no-no to eat, raw eggs and all. But it’s ooooohhhh so tempting and yummy! No judgement here!!

Easy Chocolate Chip Recipe Bounty ~The Baked Goods!

Scoop the cookie dough with a large spoon or cookie scoop onto an ungreased cookie sheet. You can decide whether you want to use parchment paper or not. Sometimes I like to go this route to help with the clean-up afterward!!

Bake the cookies at 350 degrees for about 12-15 minutes. When they’re golden brown they’re done! Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and let cool for a minute. Then transfer the cookies to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Now…you might not want to let them cool completely before you enjoy these scrumptious treats!! I like to eat warm cookies, with the chocolate still all melty and gooey! My absolute favorite way to enjoy these delectable cookies is to have them with a cold glass of milk, dunking allowed!!!
