Ingredients in the Applebee’s Chicken Wonton Taco Recipe

Applebee's Chicken Wonton Taco Recipe ingredients

It’s easiest to break up the ingredients for this recipe into 3 categories!

The Chicken…

This recipe calls for two chicken breasts.  The chicken will be prepared with 2 Tablespoons hoisin sauce, 1 Tablespoon sesame oil, 1 Tablespoon soy sauce, 2 cloves garlic, and 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger.  Such fragrant ingredients!!!

The Slaw…

This Asian-inspired slaw is soooo good!  And it adds such a lovely crunch to this appetizer!!

The slaw includes a bag of shredded coleslaw mix, 4 green onions, 1 Tablespoon sesame oil, 1 Tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 Tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 Tablespoon honey.  Sweet and sour mixed with onion and cabbage.  Yum!!!

The Wonton Cups and Toppings…

You’ll use about 16 wonton shells to make the wonton cups.

For the toppings you’ll want to have sweet chili sauce, chopped cilantro, and sesame seeds.  Easy peasy and so tasty!

Making the Wonton Cups

If you’ve never bought wonton wrappers, you’ll find them in the fresh veggie area of your supermarket. These beautiful little wonders bake up all crispy to make the perfect shell for stuffing!

Spray a muffin tin with cooking spray. Carefully push a wonton wrapper into each tin. I use a little juice glass to help accomplish this part. Be careful not to tear the wrapper as you’re pushing it into the tin.

Then, coat the wontons with a coat of cooking spray, which will make them crisp in the oven. Bake them at 350 degrees for about 8-10 minutes until they’re golden brown. While the shells are baking, you can start preparing the chicken.

Preparing the Chicken

Cut up the chicken breasts into about ½” cubes.

Place cubed chicken into a large bowl. Mix together with hoisin sauce (yum!), sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic and ginger.  My mouth is watering just thinking of this flavorful combo!!!

Transfer chicken mixture to a large skillet.  Over medium-high heat sauté the chicken for about 8 minutes, stirring and tossing frequently to make sure it’s thoroughly cooked through.

As the chicken is cooking you can prepare the slaw!

Preparing the Slaw

Thinly slice the green onions.

And open the bag of coleslaw mix!  Place all ingredients for the slaw together in a large bowl.  Stir until well mixed!  That’s it!

You’ll also want to rinse the cilantro to prepare it for the topping.  Remove the cilantro leaves from the stem, and coarsely chop the leaves.  You’ll add these as part of the topping!

Assemble the Appetizers

Place the lovely little baked wonton shells onto a serving platter.

Evenly divide the cooked chicken mixture into each of the 15 shells.  Top with coleslaw to fill to the top.  Sprinkle chopped cilantro over each filled shell also!

Then drizzle the sweet chili sauce over the assembled shells.  Sprinkle the lovely little sesame seeds over it all.
