Ingredients in the Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies Recipe

Most of the simple ingredients in these soft and chewy cookies are probably in your pantry and fridge!

Moist Ingredients

One stick of butter is needed.  You’ll want to let the butter soften on the kitchen counter. You could also soften it in the microwave ahead of making this easy recipe!

This simple recipe calls for large one egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

The peanut butter blossom cookies recipe needs 1/2 cup peanut butter!

Should You Use Creamy or Chunky Peanut Butter?

The choice between creamy or chunky peanut butter for your peanut butter blossom cookies is a matter of personal preference.

Both types of peanut butter can work well in this easy cookie recipe.  The decision ultimately depends on the texture and taste you prefer.

Creamy peanut butter tends to create a smoother texture in the cookies.  It provides a more consistent flavor throughout. And blends well with the other ingredients to create a uniform cookie dough.

If you prefer a soft and smooth texture in your cookies creamy peanut butter is a good choice.

Chunky peanut butter adds a bit of texture and crunch to the cookies!

The small peanut pieces in chunky peanut butter can create a delightful contrast to the soft cookie base!!

If you enjoy a bit of crunch and want small peanut chunks dispersed throughout your cookies, using chunky peanut butter would be a great option!

Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.

If you enjoy the added texture and flavor of peanuts, go for chunky peanut butter.

If you prefer a smoother and more consistent texture, opt for creamy peanut butter.

Either way, your peanut butter blossom cookies will be delicious!

Dry Ingredients

The dry ingredients in this cookie recipe are 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar.

You’ll also need 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour. And 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

These cookie dough balls get rolled in 1/4 cup granulated sugar before baking.

Once they’ve baked each cookie gets a chunk of chocolate in the center to create the blossom!

You’ll use 36 chocolate kisses, unwrapped!!

What if You Don’t Have Hershey’s Kisses on Hand?

If you don’t have Hershey’s Kisses or prefer to use a different type of chocolate in your peanut butter blossom cookies there are several alternatives you can consider.

Here are a few substitution options…

Chocolate chunks:

Use chocolate chunks or chopped chocolate bars instead of Hershey’s Kisses.

You can use semi-sweet, dark, or milk chocolate, depending on your preference.

Simply press the chocolate chunks into the center of each cookie while they are still warm from the oven.

Chocolate chips:

Another popular choice is to use chocolate chips. They come in various flavors and sizes, such as semi-sweet, dark, milk, or even white chocolate.

Similar to chocolate chunks, press a few chocolate chips into the center of each cookie right after they come out of the oven.

Peanut butter cups:

If you’re a fan of the peanut butter and chocolate combination, you can substitute Hershey’s Kisses with miniature peanut butter cups!

Just press one peanut butter cup into the center of each cookie as soon as they are baked!!

Caramel-filled chocolates:

For a delicious twist, consider using caramel-filled chocolates like Rolos.

The gooey caramel center pairs wonderfully with the peanut butter cookie.

Press one caramel-filled chocolate into the center of each cookie after baking.

Remember to adjust the quantity and size of the chocolate substitution according to your preference and the size of the cookies!!

Experimenting with different chocolates can add variety and create unique flavor profiles in your peanut butter blossom cookies recipe!!!

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough!

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Repeat the process with the remaining dough, baking one batch of cookies at a time.

Once the cookies have cooled completely, they are ready to be enjoyed! Peanut butter blossom cookies are a classic treat and perfect for any occasion.

How Should I Store my Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies?

To store your peanut butter blossom cookies and keep them fresh, follow these steps…

Allow the cookies to cool completely after baking. This helps prevent moisture buildup and maintains their texture.

Choose an airtight container or storage option. You can use a cookie jar, airtight plastic containers, or resealable plastic bags. Make sure the container is clean and dry before placing the cookies inside.

Line the container with wax paper or parchment paper. This creates a barrier between the cookies and the container, preventing them from sticking together or absorbing any moisture.

Arrange the cookies in a single layer in the container. Place parchment paper between each layer if necessary. This helps maintain their shape and prevents them from breaking or sticking together.

Store the cookies at room temperature in a cool and dry place. Also store away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or excessive humidity. These factors can affect the texture and taste of the cookies.

Avoid stacking or overcrowding the cookies to prevent them from becoming misshapen or crushed.

By following these storage guidelines, your peanut butter blossom cookies should stay fresh and maintain their flavor for several days.

Can You Freeze Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies?

If you want to store the cookies for an extended period, you can also freeze them!

Place them in a freezer-safe container or resealable bag and store them in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.

Thaw them at room temperature when you’re ready to enjoy!!

Substitutes to Use in the Peanut Butter Blossoms Cookies Recipe

If you don’t have all the necessary ingredients or have dietary restrictions there are a few substitutes you could use!

Peanut butter substitute:

If you’re allergic to peanuts you can use other nut or seed butters as a substitute for peanut butter.

Almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter can work well. These provide a similar creamy texture and nutty flavor.

Butter substitute:

If you prefer to avoid or are allergic to dairy, you can replace the butter with margarine or coconut oil.

Ensure that the substitute you choose is suitable for baking and has a similar texture to butter.

Sugar substitute:

If you want to reduce the sugar content or have dietary restrictions, you can use alternative sweeteners.

Options like coconut sugar, maple syrup, or honey can be used as substitutes. Keep in mind that the taste and texture of the cookies may vary slightly with different sweeteners.

Flour substitute:

You can use gluten-free all-purpose flour or a blend of gluten-free flours as a substitute for regular all-purpose flour.

Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for substituting gluten-free flour in baking recipes. The proportions may differ.

Egg substitute:

If you need an egg-free version, you can try using a suitable egg replacer product or substitute each egg with a flax egg. Mix 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons of water.

This helps bind the ingredients together and provides a similar texture in the cookies.

When making substitutions, it’s important to keep in mind that the taste, texture, and baking properties of the cookies may vary slightly.

It’s a good idea to experiment and adjust the recipe accordingly to achieve the desired results.
