Techniques for the Balsam Gnomes Pillow Pattern
This pattern used simple patchwork techniques. And there are simple to use templates that let you make working with triangle pieces easy peasy!!
Even a brand-new beginning quitter can easily make this pattern.
Fabrics for the Balsam Gnomes Pillow Pattern
As always, I suggest using 100% cotton, high-quality quilting fabric. You can raid your stash or purchase new fabrics.
Whenever possible I love to patronize my local quilt shop to purchase fabrics.
But in a pinch I order my fabrics online from shops like The Fat Quarter Shop or Connecting Threads.
Colors of Fabrics
Although I made these pillows to match my other red and green Balsam Gnome products, you can easily switch out the colors to match your décor!!
I’ve seen folks use pinks, mint greens, blues, tans, and grays to make the Balsam Gnomes. There really are no rules when it comes to the choice of color pallet for these fun pillows!!!
The finished pillow covers measure 18″ x 18″.
Finishing the Pillows
These pillow covers are so small you can easily quilt them on your domestic machine. I used a swirly meandering design to quilt mine. But you can use straight stitching or whatever machine quilting technique you prefer.
These pillows are only 18″ square, so you could easily hand-quilt them instead!!
And the pattern includes directions for making the 18″ pillow insert too! It’s so easy, honestly it takes just minutes to make!!!
